Mission

The Cecilia Chorus of New York cultivates a rich community of musicians, composers and concert-goers to create distinctive choral experiences and performances that challenge and uplift the human spirit.

About

This season, under the baton of music director, Mark Shapiro, The Cecilia Chorus of New York produced two concerts at Carnegie Hall with chorus, orchestra and soloists. In December 2018, Handels Messiah was performed in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, and in May 2019, the Chorus performed Brahmss Alto Rhapsody, Elgars Music Makers, and the world premiere of Fifty Trillion Molecular Geniuses by the Brothers Balliett. Both concerts offered emerging artists their Carnegie Hall debuts. The Chorus' March 2019 program at The Church of St. Francis Xavier honored Walt Whitman with settings of his text by Vincent Persichetti (Celebrations) and Jorge Martn (One Hour to Madness and Joy). Our outreach to music students and clients of social services organizations provided 700 tickets underwritten by chorus member's donations. A summer sing concluded the year.
