Mission

Our mission is to nurture generations of passionate learners, critical thinkers and active citizens through Design, Make, Play — an approach to learning that encourages hands-on experimentation, critical thinking, and iterative problem-solving. Through Design, Make, Play, NYSCI aspires to create a distinctive set of resources that have a measurable and scalable impact on how people learn. The museum anchors and inspires all the work we do, fostering public engagement in STEM, and supporting our youth development program, education offerings and research. We have developed innovative products to extend this learning far beyond our walls, and our extensive network of partnerships deepens and broadens our impact, locally and around the world.

About

Museum experiences: NYSCI is the largest hands-on science museum in New York, welcoming 500,000 visitors a year. It offers one-of-a-kind opportunities to learn through more than 450 exhibits, as well as large-scale experiences, community-anchored after-school programs and camps, maker space workshops and academic conferences. NYSCI has programs for every age and level of scientific interest, from toddlers to adults, casual visitors to future STEM professionals. These include NYSCI After Dark, which brings 20- and 30-somethings to special after-hours programs on subjects like beekeeping, astronomy and the design of Hollywood special effects; Access, which pairs working scientists with professional artists and designers to discover new ways of accessing the scientific concepts behind our exhibits; and our STEM Expo, which gives youth a platform to learn about educational and career opportunities in STEM.
