Domestic Violence Programs and Services - Serving nearly 2,500 clients, both adults and children, Urban Resource Institute (URI) is the largest domestic violence shelter provider in the country. The organization currently oversees 12 shelters with 1,183 beds on any given evening. URI operates both emergency shelters, which helps and houses survivors immediately following their escape from abuse, and transitional shelters, which help survivors as they prepare to re-adjust back into the community. Our residential programs create a safe and comfortable community environment, with the ultimate goal of providing survivors with the tools they need to rebuild their lives and thrive. URI is also the only organization in New York City that provides a co-living model for survivors to heal in a safe environment with their pets. We offer ancillary services including housing placement, economic empowerment programs, counseling, and legal assistance.
