About

The largest service provided by DCC is our one on one in house and telephonic credit counseling. We have educated over 1,750 consumers in this year alone with the majority of those falling in the low/moderate income level. Our counseling is offered to the general public and focuses on financially educating all individuals who are in need of help no matter their situation. Our organization's counseling service enables consumers to have a better understanding of how and where they are spending their money and what can be done to better their financial situation. Counselors complete a budget (Financial Analysis) with the input of the consumer and identify opportunities for consumers to cut back on money being spent. They also present viable options to enable consumers to pay down their debt. An individualized "Action Plan" is composed and offered. Social Service referrals are given (if appropriate). Our in-house Education Department researches and writes all of our educational material which is used to support our counseling sessions. Our second largest area of concentration is our community outreach. Various non-profit agencies, government agencies, schools, employee assistance programs, colleges, churches, libraries and the like invite our Certified Credit Counselors to conduct workshops and seminars at the location of their choice.DCC's Education Dept. has formulated specific programs geared towards the needs of specific groups and also researches and writes all educational materials utilized during these sessions. Our outreach programs fall under the following categories:ProgramsRESCUE (Resolving, Empowering, and Supplying Counseling to the Underserved through Education) EFFECT (Employees Financial Freedom Education Training)PIC (People In Crisis)YES (Youth Educational Services) WISH (Women In Search of Help)SOS (Saving Our Seniors)VICTORY (Vital Individualized Counseling to obtain results for You)GOALS (Guidance on Achieving Life's Successes)HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Easy)Esperanza Financiero-Financial HopeBelow is a list of the organizations who have hosted our events throughout 2019:2019 Community Outreach CSEA Town of Hempstead CSEA Nassau County Dept of Social Services Eastern Suffolk Boces Girl Scouts of Suffolk County - Camp Edey and Camp Sobaco Mastic-Moriches Library Salvation Army Stony Brook University EAP Services for the Under Served Town of Babylon Ujima Program Town of Brookhaven Women's Services Town of Brookhaven Career Edge The majority of attendees fall into the lower/moderate income level group. DCC has reached out to approximately 725 participants through 64 workshops/seminars during 2019. Additionally DCC offers monthly seminars in house with topics such as:Understanding Credit ReportsGetting Married? Suddenly Financially Responsible Considering Bankruptcy? When appropriate, DCC offers a Debt Management Program to help those who would benefit. As a result, our DMP serves only a small percentage of those we counsel (9%). However, this program has proven to be invaluable to those for whom it is a "good fit". Our Certified Credit Counselors continue to educate clients throughout the DMP process as well as after the program is completed for as long as the clients would like. In this way, we help our clients to adapt their budget and spending habits to coincide with life changes which may occur along the way. In addition, DCC interacts with each client's creditors, implements a repayment plan, receives and disburses payments and guides clients in restructuring their spending and payment habits. A skill they will be able to use throughout their lifetime.
