Tomchei Shabbos ensures that all of our neighbors have fresh food to enjoy every Shabbos and Yom Tov.
About
We help ensure that all Jewish homes in the Five Towns and Rockaways have food to put on their table each Shabbos. We are the only Tomchei organization in our area, and we are a 100% volunteer-run charity. We are blessed to live in one of the most prominent and affluent Jewish communities in the world. Yet, there are still those in our midst who struggle to afford even basic foodstuffs. Tomchei Shabbos, a 501(c)(3), ensures that all of our neighbors, no matter how needy, have fresh and wholesome food with which to look forward to and enjoy every Shabbos and Yom Tov. We support close to 400 families on a weekly basis, with a few hundred more receiving assistance before Pesach. Our 2024 budget is projected to be over 1,200,000. All of the packaging and distribution is done by volunteers. Previously, students at TAG and Young Israel of Woodmere spent their Thursday afternoons assembling packages. Since 2019, Elite Caterers has donated their staff and commissary to set up the packages. More volunteers then come to pick up the packages and discreetly deliver them to the anonymous recipients. We are extremely grateful to Elite Caterers. Without their dedication and voluntary service Tomchei would not have been able to operate this year.
