Mission
Girls on the Run is a psychology-based, youth development program that weaves interactive running with self-esteem and character-development lessons to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
About
In 2019, Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin, Inc. served 1,763 participants through approximately 75 different service sites. We offer a spring and fall program where girls in 3rd-5th grades attend twice-weekly, 1.5 hour sessions over the course of 10 weeks. We offer a sliding-fee scale based on family income, award scholarships based on financial need, and do not turn any participant away due to inability to pay. Girls on the Run (3rd-5th grades) offers character development and self-esteem lessons, designed to help prepare girls for adolescence and adulthood with tools to navigate challenges that arise. These lessons are coupled with a running program where the girls conduct a community impact project and participate in a 5k run to complete the program. In 2019, we provided $48,638 in scholarship support to 416 participants.
