The Greenbelt Conservancy (the "Greenbelt"), the second of New York City's Flagship Parks, consists of over 2,800 acres of public and privatge land (greater than the combined acreage of Central Park and Prospect Park) in the center of Staten Island, and includes natural areas and traditonal parks. The Greenbelt is not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 that works in Partnership with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (Parks and Recreation) to support the operation, administration, and public use of the Greenbelt's City Parkland. The Greenbelt promotes conservancy and enhancement through public awareness, support, and enjoyment of its resources. Since 1999, the carousel has been bringing old-fashioned fun back to Staten Island. The carousel was built in Willowbrook to enhance the park and increase visitor numbers at the Northern access point of the Greenbelt.
