About

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preventing and curing breast cancer by advancing the world's most promising research. Breast cancer is an urgent, global public health issue: it is the most common cancer in women worldwide, with more than 250,000 women and 2,000 men diagnosed in the U.S. this year alone. While mortality rates have decreased and outcomes have improved over the last two decades, approximately 40,000 people in the nation continue to die from the disease each year. With a new woman diagnosed every two minutes in the U.S., and every 19 seconds around the world, research is the only path to eradicating breast cancer. Subsequent to year-end, in October 2019, the foundation distributed grants approved at June 30, 2019 of $66 million, including $4,091,852 funded from the founders fund to nearly 300 researchers from top universities and medical institutions across six continents, all working to dramatically improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of breast cancer for people everywhere.
