Mission
The Door’s mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment. The Door was founded in 1972 in response to a convergence of social crises in New York City. A group of young practitioners in medicine, law, social work, and the arts collaborated to create a resource that could address the interrelated systemic barriers affecting youth. As such, The Door was born as a safe haven of alternatives for young people on the margins, dismantling barriers created by race, class, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, and country of origin.

Adolescent Health Center (AHC) The Door is New York City's only adolescent health center that's embedded in a youth development organization. We offer comprehensive, confidential health services that include primary, reproductive and behavioral health care, as well as dental, vision, dermatology, and a nutrition education program.
