Mission

IRTS builds future media leaders via access, education, and diversity. The IRTS Foundation brings together the wisdom and power of today's leaders to train and educate the next generation of media and communication professionals. Our programs and diversity initiatives help ensure that the business responsible for informing, entertaining, and educating the public reaches its highest potential in this exciting digital age.

About

The IRTS Summer Fellowship Program provides outstanding, competitively selected college students from across the nation with a chance to learn about the realities of working in the media industry via meetings with senior executives, as well as through hands-on experience. The nine-week expense-paid opportunity begins with a comprehensive one-week orientation, where students have a rare chance to question a stellar line-up of industry professionals at panels, lectures, simulations and field visits. After this first week, each student is assigned to an eight-week IRTS sponsored fellowship at a New York based corporation in a position that complements his or her career goals. IRTS continues to provide educational seminars and career counseling throughout the summer. Summer fellows receive transportation to and from New York, housing and an allowance. Graduates of our program emerge with a better understanding of our business, along with carefully honed skills that increase marketability in the job search. The IRTS Broadcast Sales Associates is also a part of the Fellowship Program. It was created to specifically increase diversity in the management sector of our industry by providing outstanding students of color with an experience that includes sales training traditionally reserved for actual employees of a station group. This type of experience continues to be the favored track to management.
