Renewing the Countryside strengthens rural areas by championing and supporting rural communities, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs, educators, activists and other people who are renewing the countryside through sustainable and innovative initiatives, businesses, and projects. Community and farmer development: 1) RTC coordinates educational and networking activities for beginning farmers. We manage and grow the farmland access hub, an emerging network of organizations to work collaboratively on issues of rural land ownership, farm transitions, and farmland access for beginning farmers; provide literacy training to help prepare beginning farmers to acquire land. We also provided individualized technical assistance to beginning farmers seeking land, moderated a farm transitions email discussion with over 200 subscribers and nearly 100 active threads. We train and mentor 10 regional farmers markets who are expanding their operations through product aggregation and selling wholesale to institutional buyers.
