WE ARE WOMEN OF COLOR-LED WORKERS'CENTER, A COMMUNITY CENTER(BASED IN WOODSIDE,NY) AND A HOME AWAY FROM HOME FOR MANY NEPALI-SPEAKING IMMIGRANT FAMILIES. WE ARE THE FIRST AND ONLY GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION SERVING AND ORGANIZING THE NEPALI-SPEAKING COMMUNITY IN THE U.S. OUR UNIQUE COMBINATION ENABLES US TO UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND PROVIDE CRITICAL AND NECESSARY SUPPORT WHILE ORGANIZING AND ADVOCATING FOR VARIOUS ISSUES AFFECTING IMMIGRANT FAMILIES TO CREAT LASTING SOCIAL CHANGES AT THE LOCAL, STATE, NATIONAL AND GLOBAL LEVELS. OUR MEMBERS ARE (NEW) IMMIGRANTS THAT WORK IN INFORMAL ECONOMIC SECTORS, MOST ARE DOMESTIC WORKERS AND NAIL SALON WORKERS, AND FACE DISCRIMINATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF GENDER, RACE, CLASS AND IMMIGRATION STATUS. WE PROVIDE DIRECT SERVICES SUCH AS LICENSING SUPPORT, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, ENGLISH FOR EMPOWERMENT CLASSES, CITIZENSHIP CLASSES, HEALTHCARE NAVIGATOR PROGRAM, LEGAL CLINICS, ONE-ON-ONE CASE SUPPORT, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS (KYRS), ETC. WE TRAIN LEADERS THROUGH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING MODULES WE MOBILIZE PEOPLE THROUGH TARGARED MEETINGS, RALLIES, TOWN HALLS, POLITICAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND CULTURAL EVENTS. WE WORK WITH OUR MEMBERS TO ADVOCATE FOR POLICIES THAT IMPACT OUR LIVES AND ENSURE THAT POLICIES ARE IMPLEMENTED TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY.
