The acronym RENMEN stands for Recuperation des Enfants Necessiteux et Mal Encadres (Recuperation of the Needy and Underprivileged Children). Its meaning in Haitian Creole is love. RENMEN Foundation provides housing, food, healthcare and education to the children placed in the care of its orphanage in Bon Repos, Haiti. There are currently 45 children residing at RENMEN. The Foundation also houses an elementary school, Institution Flaunapiou, grades K-6, for the orphanage children, as well as the neighborhood children who are enrolled there. Additionally, RENMEN Foundation provides support services to the disadvantaged community of 564 families in the immediate surrounding neighborhood of Bon Repos. One of the first community projects undertaken by the Foundation was the installment and maintenance of a water pump that supplies the area with potable water. Access to clean, fresh water is one of the biggest needs facing Haiti, where waterborne illnesses, such as typhoid, cholera and chronic diarrhea, are the cause of more than half of the deaths in the country every year.
