MEETING STREET SCHOOLS (MSS) IS A GROUNDBREAKING INITIATIVE DEDICATED TO THE CREATION OF A NEW MANDATE FOR EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND BEYOND. MSS WAS FOUNDED UPON THE BELIEF THAT ALL CHILDREN DESERVE AN EXCELLENT EDUCATION REGARDLESS OF THEIR GEOGRAPHIC OR SOCIOECONOMIC CIRCUMSTANCES, AND ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE ABILITY TO EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM. WHERE ACCESS TO QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION OR AFFORDABLE PRIVATE ALTERNATIVES IS SEVERELY LIMITED, MSS IS PROVIDING CHILDREN WITH TRANSFORMATIONAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.

MEETING STREET SCHOOLS (MSS), OPERATING AS MEETING STREET ACADEMY (MSA-CHARLESTON), OPENED ITS DOORS IN CHARLESTON, SC IN AUGUST 2008 FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 PRESCHOOL CHILDREN, AGED THREE AND FOUR. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE ADDED A GRADE EVERY YEAR AND WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED A YEAR-ROUND SCHOOL YEAR THAT RUNS FROM JULY TO JUNE EACH YEAR. IN JUNE 2015, MSA-CHARLESTON GRADUATED ITS FIRST FIFTH GRADE CLASS. IN JULY OF 2016, MSA-CHARLESTON'S TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS WAS APPROXIMATELY 220 AND APPROXIMATELY 245 STUDENTS IN THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR.IN JULY 2012, MSA-SPARTANBURG OPENED ITS DOORS TO 37 PRESCHOOLERS AGED THREE AND FOUR. IN APRIL 2016, MSS AND SPARTANBURG DISTRICT 7 MOVED FORWARD WITH PLANS TO BEGIN THE 2016-2017 YEAR AT MSA-SPARTANBURG AS A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. AS OF JULY 2016, MSA-SPARTANBURG ADDED ITS THIRD-GRADE CLASS AND SERVED APPROXIMATELY 180 PREK3 THROUGH THIRD GRADE STUDENTS. DURING THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR, MSA-SPARTANBURG ADDED ITS FOURTH-GRADE CLASS WITH AN ENROLLMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 200 STUDENTS. IN FEBRUARY 2014, MSS AGREED TO PARTNER WITH THE CHARLESTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ("CCSD") UNDER THE SC SCHOOLS OF CHOICE LAW TO OPEN MEETING STREET ELEMENTARY AT BRENTWOOD (MSEB), A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP SCHOOL OPEN TO ALL FAMILIES LIVING IN THE NEWLY FORMED ATTENDANCE ZONE IN NORTH CHARLESTON, SC. MSEB OPENED ITS DOORS IN AUGUST OF 2014 TO APPROXIMATELY 120 PREK3, PREK4, KINDERGARTEN, AND FIRST GRADE STUDENTS AND ADDED ON A SUCCESSIVE GRADE EACH YEAR THROUGH FIFTH GRADE IN 2018. IN JULY 2016, MSEB ADDED ITS THIRD-GRADE CLASS, BRINGING ITS TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS TO APPROXIMATELY 450. DURING THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR, MSEB ADDED ITS FOURTH-GRADE CLASS WITH A TOTAL SCHOOL ENROLLMENT OF APPROXIMATELY 580 STUDENTS. ON MARCH 21, 2016, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AMENDED CHARLESTON PARTNERSHIP, MEETING STREET SCHOOLS ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT TO TAKE OVER THE MANAGEMENT OF ANOTHER SCHOOL IN CCSD, EDMUND A. BURNS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ("BURNS"). BURNS WILL BE UNDERGOING RENOVATIONS THROUGH THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR. BRENTWOOD WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KINDERGARTEN AND 1ST GRADE STUDENTS WHO ARE ZONED FOR BURNS IN THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR.
