Mission

In 2007, the Playing for Change Foundation was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. Our mission is to create positive change through music and arts education. As one of our students in Nepal stated, "Music is an indispensable part of life -‐ you cannot live without music." We couldn't agree more. At the Playing For Change Foundation, we live our lives by this principle and apply it to everything we do.

About

TO DATE, PFCF HAS CREATED FIFTEEN MUSIC PROGRAMS IN 11 COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THREE MUSIC SCHOOLS IN SOUTH AFRICA, GHANA, AND MALI, AND THE CREATION OF ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS IN RWANDA, THAILAND AND IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN NEPAL. MORE THAN 1,500 CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN FREE CLASSES EACH WEEK AND SUBJECTS INCLUDE SONG, DANCE, PLAYING INSTRUMENTS, TEACHING CULTURAL TRADITIONS, AND, IN SOME CASES, BASIC LITERACY. BY PROVIDING CHILDREN A SAFE PLACE TO LEARN, FLOURISH, AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES, PFCF OFFERS A CREATIVE ALTERNATIVE TO THE STRUGGLES MANY OF THESE CHILDREN FACE DAILY. EACH PROGRAM IS EVALUATED ANNUALLY AND BOTH CHILDREN AND INSTRUCTORS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WITH US WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING AND TO HELP US UNDERSTAND HOW WE CAN CONTINUE TO PROVIDE GREAT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO THEM THAT STRENGTHEN THEIR SENSE OF THEMSELVES, THEIR COMMUNITIES AND THEIR PLACE IN THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY. IN ADDITION TO MUSIC INSTRUCTION, PROGRAMMATIC EXPANSION OCCURED THROUGH PROGRAM PARTNERSHIPS WITH PROJECTS IN LATIN AMERICA, INCLUDING MEXICO, BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA.
