THE FRIENDS OF THE MONMOUTH COUNTY PARK SYSTEM, INC. IS A NON-PROFIT, VOLUNTARY MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION FORMED UNDER THE PERTINENT STATUES OF THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS CORPORATION IS TO ASSIST THE MONMOUTH COUNTY BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS, THE MONMOUTH COUNTY BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS, THE CITIZENS OF MONMOUTH COUNTY AND OTHER INTERESTED GROUPS IN MEETING THE OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES OF THE MONMOUTH COUNTY PARK SYSTEM. THIS INCLUDES RECREATIONAL, OPEN SPACE, HISTORICAL PRESERVATION, CONSERVATION, CULTURAL, HORTICULTURAL, AND EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AND PROGRAMMING, SPECIFICALLY - TO INCREASE THE PARK SYSTEM'S VALUE THROUGH DONATION OF SERVICES, PROPERTY, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE, SCHOLARSHIPS AND COORDINATION OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES; - TO ENHANCE EXISTING RESOURCES THROUGH FUNDING AND MANAGEMENT FOR BEAUTIFICATION, RESTORATION AND LIMITED CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS; - TO OPERATE, MANAGE AND MAINTAIN FACILITIES AND PROGRAMS; - TO

THE ORGANIZATION FUNDED NUMEROUS PROJECTS DURING THE 2019 YEAR AS FOLLOWS: SPECIAL PROJECTS COMPLETED IN 2019 BENCH PLACEMENT IN VARIOUS PARKS THROUGHOUT THE PARK SYSTEM - 11,715 THE FRIENDS OF THE PARKS HAVE EXPERIENCED A NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN HONORARY AND MEMORIAL BENCH DONATIONS. IN 2019, WE PLACED SIXTEEN (16) PARK BENCHES AT BAYSHORE WATERFRONT PARK, DEEP CUT GARDENS, FISHERMAN'S COVE RECREATION AREA, HARTSHORNE WOODS, HENRY HUDSON TRAIL, HOLMDEL PARK, THE MANASQUAN RESERVOIR AND THOMPSON PARK. MANY OF OUR CONTRIBUTORS HAVE EXPRESSED THAT THE DONATION OF A BENCH PROVIDES: - COMFORT TO THE DONOR AND HELPS THEM THROUGH THE GRIEVING PROCESS - THE LASTING MEMORY OF A LOVED ONE IN A MEANINGFUL LOCATION FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS - THE DONATION OF A BENCH TO THE PARK SYSTEM FOR ALL PARK PATRONS TO ENJOY PERHAPS THE GREATEST MEASURE OF A BENCH DONATION IS THE VIEW FROM THE BENCH. CAPRA(COMMISSION FOR ACCREDITATION OF PARK AND RECREATION AGENCIES)- 3,668 CREATIVE ARTS CENTER OPEN HOUSE & ART SHOW - 700 DEEP CUT GARDENS - WATER LILIES AND ROSES - 627 DEEP CUT GARDENS - COMMEMORATIVE TREE - 126 DORBROOK RECREATION AREA - LIONS SENSORY DEN - 113,507 THE FRIENDS OF THE PARKS ACCEPTED A RESTRICTED DONATION FROM THE COLTS NECK LIONS CLUB. THIS DONATION WAS DESIGNATED TO PURCHASE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT THAT IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR SIGHT-IMPAIRED CHILDREN, BUT CAN BE USED AND ENJOYED BY CHILDREN OF ALL ABILITIES. ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS DONATION, WERE FUNDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION, AS WELL AS SPECIALIZED SURFACE COVERING, TWO (2) PARK BENCHES AND COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUES. THIS EQUIPMENT WAS INSTALLED AT CHALLENGER PLACE, A UNIVERSALLY EQUIPPED PLAYGROUND LOCATED IN DORBROOK RECREATION AREA, COLTS NECK. THE FRIENDS OF THE PARKS WERE PRIVILEGED TO COORDINATE THIS PROJECT ON BEHALF OF THE COLTS NECK LIONS CLUB AND THE MONMOUTH COUNTY PARK SYSTEM. E MURRAY TODD RACE - 227 FAIRBANKS-MORSE ENGINE FOR HISTORIC LONGSTREET FARM - 1,722 HOLMDEL PARK - TREE DONATION - 225 THOMPSON PARK, BROOKDALE FARM NATIONAL REGISTRY - 10,000 HISTORIC RESEARCH FOR THE APPLICATION FOR BROOKDALE FARM TO BE LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES WAS COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE. BROOKDALE FARM WAS THE ORIGINAL NAME FOR WHAT IS NOW KNOWN AS THOMPSON PARK, LINCROFT. THE THOMPSON FAMILY HAS A RICH HISTORY OF PHILANTHROPY HERE IN MONMOUTH COUNTY. GERALDINE THOMPSON WAS THE FOUNDER OF THE VISITING NURSES ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL JERSEY, ENCOURAGED AND ASSISTED MONMOUTH COUNTY IN OPENING A TB CLINIC IN WALL AND WAS A CRUSADER IN WOMEN'S PRISON REFORM. BROOKDALE FARM WAS THE THOMPSON'S SUMMER HOME AND CONSISTED OF WHAT IS TODAY'S THOMPSON PARK AND BROOKDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. THOMPSON PARK, TREE GROVE - 230 2019 ANNUAL DISTRIBUTIONS HISTORIC SERVICES - 500 HOSPITALITY - 608 MARKETING - 5,000 PARK SYSTEM STAFF TRAINING - 3,874 RECREATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - 13,992 THE FRIENDS OF THE PARKS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE RECREATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (RAP) BY PROVIDING 20 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHILDREN FROM MONMOUTH COUNTY'S UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES SUCH AS ASBURY PARK, NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NEPTUNE CITY, AND LONG BRANCH. THESE CAMPERS ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN WEEK-LONG SUMMER CAMPS (INCLUDING DOOR-TO-DOOR TRANSPORTATION), SUMMER CONCERTS, BOAT TOURS, AND FARM TOURS. IN ADDITION, THE FRIENDS OF THE PARKS FUND A TRIP TO SEE THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS, AN AFTERNOON OF BOWLING, AND HOLIDAY PARTIES, AND PROGRAMS AT THE PARK SYSTEM'S COASTAL ACTIVITY CENTER IN ASBURY PARK.
