To restore and preserve the twenty-nine unrestored historic buildings at the national monument, Ellis Island. These are the buildings of the first and largest public health hospital in the United States built during the height of immigration between 1909 and 1930. To develop and administer public programming on the universal issues of immigration and public health. The project serves as an example of how our national iconic monuments can serve new and modern purposes, encourage civic engagement and enlighten contemporary issues.

As stipulated in the philanthropic partner agreement between Save Ellis Island (SEI) and the National Park Service, SEI undertook its next project to fully restore the historic public health hospitals recreation pavilion and open green space giving access to yet another historic building on the south side of the island. When completed, visitors are able to attend programs and events held on the beautiful green lawns and open space with its view of the entire hospital complex, Statue of Liberty and the breathtaking views of the NY and NJ skyline created to enhance the visitor experience and expand the story of Ellis Island.
