Mission

Traveler Aid Family Services of Philadelphia (TAFSP) was founded over 100 years ago to help stranded travelers. Our mission is to help families experiencing homelessness to become healthy, productive, and self-reliant.  Located at 111 N 49th street on the grounds of the Kirkbride Center, our emergency family shelter is the largest non-profit homeless shelter for families in Philadelphia. It offers a safe environment, food, case management, computer training, adult education, parenting skills, money management, and employment preparation for adult residents and a host of other ancillary services annually to over 500 families.  We also offer a Bright Space childcare program to non-school aged children. Evening services include a book club, yoga, arts and crafts, and aerobics.  All families are referred to our shelter through the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Supportive Housing.
