Mission
Tyler Arboretum's mission is to preserve, enhance, and share our heritage, collections, and landscapes, to create and inspire stewards of the natural world. Tyler Arboretum remains intact since its institutional founding in 1944, with its natural and historic resources protected for the public benefit. For almost half a century, tens of thousands of school children have learned about the environment and the importance of preserving plant and animal diversity. The Arboretum's natural areas, over 650 acres, continue to help protect the watershed for Ridley Creek, and the entire 650-acre parcel serves as a buffer for wildlife threatened by suburban development.

FROM FEBRUARY 2019 TO JANUARY 2020, TYLER ARBORETUM OFFERED BOTH INFORMAL AND FORMAL PROGRAMS TO INDIVIDUALS INCLUDING: SCHOOLS (4,144 KIDS; 1,302 ADULTS), SCHOOL/YOUTH OUTREACH (175 KIDS; 29 ADULTS), SCOUTS (594 KIDS AND ADULTS), SUMMER CAMPERS (2,846), ADULTS (1,196), ADULT GROUP TOURS/OUTREACH (366/249) AND YOUTH (560 KIDS; 512 ADULTS), AND FAMILY (237). A TOTAL OF 113 ADULTS AND YOUTH ATTENDED IMLS EDIBLE GARDEN PROGRAMS AND THE EAGLES STADIUM TOUR. OUR ECO-BIRTHDAY PARTIES (282 KIDS; 194 ADULTS) GAVE FAMILIES A UNIQUE PARTY EXPERIENCE INFUSED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION. OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS COVERED A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS INCLUDING BOTANICAL ARTS, NATURE STUDIES, GARDENING AND HORTICULTURE, AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)WE ALSO OFFERED SEVERAL MEMBERS EVENTS (899) AND FAMILY-ORIENTED FESTIVALS AND ADDITIONAL SPECIAL EVENTS (6,425). OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM GREATLY SUPPORTS THE ARBORETUM'S EFFORTS WITH 203 ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS GIVING APPROXIMATELY 13,000 HOURS AND 11 GROUPS OF CORPORATES AND COLLEGES (ESTIMATE 200 PEOPLE). THE ARBORETUM CONTINUES TO USE THE HORTICULTURAL COLLECTIONS, HISTORIC STRUCTURES, AND OUR 650 ACRES OF NATURAL LANDSCAPES TO CONNECT OUR VISITORS TO NATURE, OUR HISTORY, AND TO INFORM AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON HOW TO BECOME STEWARDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT.
