Mission
Tempesta Di Mare is a self-led baroque orchestra and chamber ensemble with a mission to inspire and enlighten through concerts, recordings and broadcasts.
About
Greater Philadelphia Concert Series: Each of our five home concerts is curated around unifying programmatic ideas, for instance music for the literary and artistic salons of early eighteenth-century France (Les Conversations Galantes), works by each of the four composers who competed for a coveted job in Leipzig (Leipzig Shortlist), and orchestral perspectives on nature unleashed (Force Majeure). At times, those themes span an entire season, as in our 2009-2010 and 2016-2017 season-long explorations of two of the baroque eras most famous works: Bachs Brandenburg Concertos and Vivaldis The Four Seasons, programmed alongside largely unfamiliar music that inspired and surrounded them. Or they explore a distinct style of music, such as our two-season, 8-concert project Comedie et Tragedie: French orchestral music for the Theater (2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons), or delve deeply into the musical genius of a single composer, such as our 2017 project on Georg Philipp Telemann. In addition to the five chamber and orchestral programs, Tempesta presents am annual, three-concert Artist Recital Series, with performances curated, performed and narrated by our principal musicians in unusual, intimate settings, such as galleries and historic houses.
