About

THE BRC PROVIDED LACTATION SERVICES BY AN IBCLC TO 1,705 FAMILIES FOR A TOTAL OF 3,094 VISITS IN 2018. TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FIVE FAMILIES WERE ABLE TO UTILIZE OUR SLIDING SCALE OF PAYMENT. THIS YEAR, WE CLOSED OUR OFFICE IN BENSALEM WHICH WAS FULLY FUNDED BY ST. MARY MEDICAL CENTER. THE NEW OFFICE IN KING OF PRUSSIA IS STEADILY IMPROVING. THE OFFICE PROVIDED 103 MORE VISITS THIS YEAR THAN LAST YEAR. OUR FREE WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUPS WHICH WE HAVE AT BOTH LOCATIONS ARE A GREAT WAY FOR MOTHERS TO CONTINUE TO GET INFORMATION FROM OUR IBCLCS, AND TO CONNECT, LEARN, AND GROW WITH THEIR COMMUNITY OF FAMILIES. WE HAD 1,114 VISITS TO OUR SUPPORT GROUPS THIS YEAR. OUR CLOSED FACEBOOK GROUP IS ANOTHER WAY MOTHERS CAN CONNECT IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. WE HAVE 1,056 MEMBERS. CONTINUED SUPPORT FROM LACTATION CONSULTANTS, AS WELL AS SUPPORT FROM PEERS INCREASES BREASTFEEDING DURATION RATES. BRC CLIENTS BREASTFEED 3X LONGER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. THE BRC CONTINUES TO PROVIDE INPATIENT CARE AT HOLY REDEEMER HOSPITAL AND TEMPLE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL SIX DAYS A WEEK. OUR IBCLCS PROVIDE CLINICAL LACTATION MANAGEMENT TO FAMILIES IN THE EARLY POSTPARTUM PERIOD. IT'S IMPORTANT FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS TO LEARN WHAT AN IBCLC DOES AT THE BRC. OBSERVATION DAYS ARE SCHEDULED REGULARLY. THOSE INCLUDE RESIDENT PHYSICIANS, MEDICAL STUDENTS, DIETETIC INTERNS, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS, MPH GRADUATE STUDENTS , AND NURSING STUDENTS.
