Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG) comprises MCG Youth & Arts and MCG Jazz. The mission of Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG) Youth & Arts is to educate and inspire youth through the arts to become productive citizens. It achieves this by providing afterschool studio arts programming. The mission of MCG Jazz is to preserve, promote, and present jazz. It achieves this through its live jazz concert series and music education programs. Both programs operate under three fundamental principles: 1) people thrive when they are treated as assets; 2) environment shapes behavior; and 3) creativity fuels innovation. MCG promotes cultural discovery by connecting diverse, accomplished artists to the community.

MCG YOUTH & ARTSMCG YOUTH & ARTS OFFERS A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS IN WHICH THE ARC OF EXPERIENCE LEADS PARTICIPANTS TO LEARN, CREATE, AND CELEBRATE. ALL PROGRAMS ARE LED BY TEACHING ARTISTS WHO ARE ALSO PRACTICING PROFESSIONALS AND YOUTH MENTORS. MCG YOUTH & ARTS' PROGRAMMING PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS TO ENGAGE MEANINGFULLY WITH THE ARTS, UTILIZES THE ARTS AS A PLATFORM TO HELP YOUTH DISCOVER THEIR INHERENT WORTH, AND ENCOURAGES YOUNG PEOPLE TO LEARN THE VALUE OF PERSEVERANCE, INCLUDING COMPLETING THEIR EDUCATION.MCG YOUTH & ARTS' FLAGSHIP OFFERING IS ITS AFTERSCHOOL APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM (ATP). ATP PROVIDES HIGH-SCHOOL-AGE YOUTH ACCESS TO CARING INSTRUCTION AND WELL-EQUIPPED STUDIOS FOR CERAMICS, PHOTOGRAPHY, DESIGN, AND DIGITAL ARTS WITH A NEW FOCUS ON ADDITIVE PRODUCTION (E.G., 3D PRINTING) AT NO COST TO PARTICIPANTS. FOR THREE, TEN-WEEK TRIMESTERS HIGH-SCHOOL AGED YOUTH CREATE ART IN THE STUDIO OF THEIR CHOICE FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS AT LEAST ONCE WEEKLY AFTER SCHOOL, WITH THE OPTION FOR ADDITIONAL OPEN STUDIO TIME ON FRIDAYS WHEN THEY CAN EXPLORE A NEW PROCESS OR STUDIO. IN ADDITION TO VALUABLE ART SKILLS, YOUTH DEVELOP PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COLLABORATION SKILLS, IMPROVE CRITICAL THINKING ABILITIES, ARE INTRODUCED TO IMPORTANT ARTISTIC THEORIES, AND DEVELOP A LIFE-LONG LOVE OF LEARNING AND THE ARTS. YOUTH ATTENDING PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE NOT CHARGED TO PARTICIPATE. THE PROGRAM IS EVALUATED BASED ON ENROLLMENT, ATTENDANCE, AND COMPLETION RATES, AS WELL AS GRADUATION RATES FOR PARTICIPATING HIGH-SCHOOL SENIORS.IN 2019, MCG YOUTH & ARTS SERVED 294 UNIQUE STUDENTS IN 711 ENROLLMENT SPACES IN ITS APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM. MCG YOUTH & ARTS IS PROUD THAT ON-TIME GRADUATION RATES AMONG PARTICIPATING HIGH-SCHOOL SENIORS ARE CONSISTENTLY ABOVE 90 PERCENT. IN 2018-19, 100 PERCENT OF PARTICIPATING SENIORS GRADUATED ON TIME, IN STARK CONTRAST WITH THE PPS ON-TIME GRADUATION RATE OF 81 PERCENT (A+ SCHOOLS, 2018). FURTHER, 96 PERCENT OF ON-TIME GRADUATES PLANNED TO ATTEND COLLEGE, AND 94 PERCENT AGREED THAT MCG YOUTH & ARTS ENCOURAGED OR INSPIRED THEM TO CONSIDER HIGHER EDUCATION. THE POPULATION SERVED IN 2018-19 WAS 41 PERCENT CAUCASIAN, 28 PERCENT AFRICAN AMERICAN, 15 PERCENT MULTI-RACIAL, 9 PERCENT ASIAN, 5 PERCENT HISPANIC/LATINO, AND 2 PERCENT SELF-IDENTIFIED AS "OTHER."ADDITIONAL MCG YOUTH & ARTS PROGRAM OFFERINGS INCLUDE SUMMER STUDIO INTENSIVES AND SCHOOL-DAY PROGRAMMING FOR MIDDLE- AND HIGH-SCHOOL AGE YOUTH, VISITING ARTIST LECTURES FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR PPS FACULTY, AND ART AFTER DARK STUDIO CLASSES FOR ADULTS.
