About
WEATHERIZATION - SUNSET PARK REDEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (SPRC) CONTRACTS WITH THE STATE OF NEW YORK TO PROVIDE WEATHERIZATION SERVICES TO LOW-INCOME HOME OWNERS AND TENANTS IN BROOKLYN. SPRC PRIORITIZES OUTREACH TO THE ELDERLY, DISABLED AND FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN TO PROVIDE THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES AS DETERMINED BY AN ONSITE ENERGY AUDIT OF THE BUILDING. SINCE THE 1980S SPRC HAS WEATHERIZED MORE THAN 2,800 UNITS OF LOW INCOME ELIGIBLE HOUSING. IT HAS LEVERAGED WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL UTILITY COMPANIES TO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING SO THAT 100% OF THE MEASURES ON THE ENERGY AUDIT WITH A SAVINGS TO INVESTMENT RATIO (SIR) OF 1.1 OR GREATER CAN BE IMPLEMENTED INSTEAD OF REDUCED MEASURES NOT COVERED BY WEATHERIZATION FUNDING. WE HAVE DEVELOPED A HIGHLY TRAINED TEAM OF FIELD AND MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS WHO HAVE ENABLED US TO CONSISTENTLY EXCEED OUR CONTRACT GOALS AND DELIVER EXCELLENT WEATHERIZATION WORK. WE ARE PROUD TO INCLUDE EACH YEAR AMONG OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, HELPING A SENIOR WHOSE HOME WAS DEVASTATED, TO REOCCUPY THEIR HOME AFTER A DEVASTATING FIRE FORCED THEM OUT. THE INSURANCE PROCEEDS COVERED ONLY STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, ELECTRICAL, SHEET ROCK AND PAINTING. HOWEVER, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM, WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO PROVIDE A BOILER, WINDOWS, AND INSULATION, WHICH ENABLED THIS SENIOR CITIZEN TO RETURN TO THEIR HOME COMFORTABLE, ELATED AND HAPPY. ROUTINELY, WE HELP FAMILIES AND SENIORS BURDENED BY EXCESSIVE FUEL BILLS TO REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY AS MUCH AS 30%, INCLUDING THROUGH FUEL CONVERSION AND OTHER MEASURES SUCH AS AIR SEALING, ATTIC AND SIDEWALL INSULATION AND REPLACEMENT OF ENERGY-EFFICIENT REFRIGERATORS AND WINDOWS. TOO MANY SENIORS HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN HEAT AND FOOD. WEATHERIZATION WORK HELPS ELIMINATE THAT CHOICE BY FACILITATING A WHOLE HEALTHY HOME APPROACH AS IT SEEKS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING. AS A RESULT, SPRC WAS SUCCESSFUL IN SUBMITTING A REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS WHEREBY NEW YORK STATE AWARDED OUR ORGANIZATION ADDITIONAL DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE WEATHERIZATION WORK.
