CATS, DOGS, PUPPIES AND KITTENS ARE CARED FOR AT ARFS ADOPTION CENTER IN WAINSCOTT, NY, UNTIL THEY FIND A LOVING HOME. ANIMALS ARE ALSO ADOPTED FROM ARFS MOBILE ADOPTION VAN WHICH TRAVELS THROUGHOUT THE TRI-STATE AREA. A TOTAL OF 1,251 ANIMALS WERE RESCUED BY OR SURRENDERED TO ARF IN 2018, AND THERE WERE 1,309 LIVE OUTCOMES, INCLUdING ADOPTION AND TRANSFER TO PARTNER SHELTERS FOR ADOPTION. EVERY ANIMAL AT ARF RECEIVES COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL CARE, INCLUDING SPECIALITY CARE NECESSARY FOR AN ANIMAL TO BE ADOPTED SUCCESSFULLY. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TOWN OF EAST HAMPTON, ARF HAS MADE EAST HAMPTON A "NO-KILL" COMMUNITY. THE SUCCESS OF OUR ADOPTION PROGRAMS HAS ALLOWED ARF TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY AND ACTIVELY RESCUE AND TRANSPORT ANIMALS FROM PARTS OF THE COUNTRY WHERE EUTHANASIA OF CATS AND DOGS IN MUNICIPAL SHELTERS IS STILL A COMMON PRACTICE TO RELIEVE OVER-CROWDING. AS A PART OF ITS RESCUE TRANSPORT PROGRAM, ARF REGULARLY TRANSFERS ANIMALS TO PARTNER SHELTERS ON LONG ISLAND WHERE THEY ARE MADE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. IN 2018, THIS NUMBER WAS 108.ARFS OPERATION CAT (OP CAT) PROGRAM, FOUNDED IN 1997, IS A PIONEERING FERAL CAT TRAP/NEUTER/RETURN PROGRAM. IN ITS 22ND YEAR, OP CAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEUTERING OVER 27,000 FERAL CATS FROM MONTAUK TO THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN IN EASTERN SUFFOLK COUNTY. THIS PROGRAM IS IMPLEMENTED BY VOLUNTEERS AND OVERSEEN BY A FOUNDING VOLUNTEER WHO HAS SINCE BECOME AN ARF STAFF MEMBER. A TOTAL OF 1,052 SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES WERE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE ON FERAL CATS AND COMMUNITY ANIMALS IN 2018.
