The mission of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. is to strengthen regional leadership through programs, partnerships and connections. A vital, strong and thriving southwestern Pennsylvania is intricately linked with the cultivation of a talented, engaged, informed and connected pool of emerging and established leaders from across all sectors of our community. These leaders who have access to information and each other; understand the region's critical issues; are willing to activate their spheres of influence, invest their time and talents to serve AND lead in order to strengthen the quality of life here for all.

LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH (LP)THE FLAGSHIP, HIGHLY-SELECTIVE PROGRAM GEARED TOWARDS ESTABLISHED LEADERS IS DESIGNED LIKE A HANDS-ON MBA IN COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP. THE TWELVE-DAY CURRICULUM DISTRIBUTED OVER A TEN-MONTH PERIOD EXAMINES CRITICAL COMMUNITY ISSUES (SUCH AS EDUCATION, REGIONAL ECONOMY, INCLUSION, HUMAN SERVICES, REGIONAL NEIGHBORHOODS/COMMUNITIES, INFRASTRUCTURE, LOCAL GOVERNMENT, AND THE ARTS), ENHANCES CIVIC-ENGAGEMENT, DEVELOPS EXECUTIVE-LEVEL NETWORKS, AND EMPOWERS SENIOR MANAGERS TO IMPACT THEIR BUSINESS AND THE REGIONAL AGENDA AT A LEADERSHIP LEVEL. APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND ARE DUE ON THE FIRST FRIDAY OF MAY EACH YEAR, WITH A FRESH COHORT OF ESTABLISHED, SUCCESSFUL PROFESSIONALS FROM THE CORPORATE, NON-PROFIT, AND PUBLIC SECTORS STARTING THE PROGRAM EVERY SEPTEMBER. PROGRAM PARTICIPATION REQUIRES AN INVESTMENT ON THE PART OF THE APPLICANT AND/OR EMPLOYER IN THE FORM OF TUITION; SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE IN NEED.INCOMING PARTICIPANTS HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THE VALUE THEY WOULD DERIVE FROM PARTICIPATION. THIS PAST YEAR THE LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH PROGRAM MET OR EXCEEDED THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS ON THE FOLLOWING METRICS:WE ARE GRATIFIED TO REPORT THAT 100% OF THOSE RESPONDING TO THE POST-SURVEY (PERHAPS OUR MOST CRITICAL CONSTITUENT GROUP IN A GIVEN YEAR) SAID THEIR LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH EXPERIENCE WAS VALUABLE/ VERY VALUABLE. - 100% HAVE INCREASED AWARENESS OF COMMUNITY ISSUES- 100% EXPANDED AND DIVERSIFIED THEIR NETWORK- 97% WERE MOTIVATED TO DO MORE AT THE LEADERSHIP LEVEL- 97% SAID THE PROGRAMS OPENED DOORS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO MORE EFFECTIVELY IMPACT OUR REGION, AND- 90% HAVE SHARPENED THEIR FOCUS ON HOW THEY LEAD 97% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORTED THAT THEY FELT THAT THEY NOW HAVE INCREASED FAMILIARITY WITH ALL OF THE CRITICAL ISSUE-FOCUSED TOPICS COVERED PER LP SESSION IN ADDITION TO THE QUANTITATIVE FEEDBACK, BELOW ARE SOME PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS REGARDING THE VALUE OF THE LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH PROGRAM: - I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT I GAINED EVEN MORE PRIDE IN MY CITY. I HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH AMAZING LEADERSHIP IS GOING ON IN THE PITTSBURGH REGION.- I THOUGHT I WAS A VERY ACTIVE CIVIL LEADER AND VERY AWARE OF MY SURROUNDINGS. THE LP TAUGHT ME THERE IS A WHOLE WORLD OUT THERE WAITING FOR ME TO EXPLORE AND CONNECT WITH. THANK YOU FOR OPENING MY MIND, MY EYES, AND MANY DOORS FOR ME. I GAINED VALUABLE INSIGHT INTO THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE, PUBLIC POLICY AND SOCIAL STRUCTURE THAT I DID NOT FULLY APPRECIATE. I FEEL THIS UNDERSTANDING HELPS MAKE ME MORE EFFECTIVE IN MY JOB - I DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO WHEN I JOINED LP ON THE FIRST NIGHT, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS MORE THAN EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS. I AM EXTREMELY SORRY TO SEE IT END.- LEADERSHIP PITTSBURGH HAS BEEN A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE IN STEPPING BEYOND MY EVERYDAY WORLD AND EXPANDING MY AWARENESS OF THE PITTSBURGH REGION. AS A NATIVE PITTSBURGHER, I WAS UNAWARE, EVEN MORE SO THAN THE TRANSPLANTS, OF WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR CITY. THE ADDED BENEFIT OF MEETING, TALKING WITH AND WORKING WITH PEOPLE FROM OTHER INDUSTRIES WAS ALSO A GREAT EXPERIENCE. THEY BROUGHT TO ME NEW PERSPECTIVES THAT I CAN APPLY TO MY WORK AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.- IT'S OBVIOUS HOW MUCH WORK THE LP STAFF PUTS INTO MAKING EACH EXPERIENCE AS POWERFUL AS POSSIBLE, AND I REALLY APPRECIATED EVERYTHING YOU ALL DID BEHIND THE SCENES. THE RELATIONSHIPS YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS WITH ALL THE SEGMENTS OF THE GREATER PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY ARE IMPRESSIVE. I'VE LIVED IN PITTSBURGH FOR 26 YEARS AND THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE EXPERIENCES IN WHICH I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO PARTICIPATE. THANK YOU.
