Mission

TO PROVIDE FREE ACCESS TO CURRENT, RELEVANT, AND RELIABLE HEALTH AND MEDICAL INFORMATION

About

PLANETREE HEALTH LIBRARY GUIDES THE PUBLIC TO CURRENT, RELEVANT, NO-COST, AND TRUST-WORTHY MEDICAL INFORMATION BECAUSE WE BELIEVE INFORMED CONSUMERS CAN MAKE WISER LIFESTYLE AND SELF-CARE CHOICES, AND CAN PARTNER MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS. WE CONNECT THE PUBLIC TO CURATED HEALTH INFORMATION VIA OUR WEBSITE, FREE E-NEWSLETTER, AND SOCIAL MEDIA.THE PLANETALK ONLINE NEWSLETTER (ISSUED 10 TIMES/YEAR) HAS AVERAGED SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 1,900 SUBSCRIBERS IN 2018. IN 2018 ITS OPEN RATE WAS APPROX. 25% WITH APPROX. 32% CLICK-THROUGH RATE, BOTH CONSIDERED TO BE HIGH / ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT FOR AN E-NEWSLETTER.THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO REFINE AND UPDATE ITS WEBSITE (HTTP://WWW.PLANETREE-SV.ORG/) ON CORE HEALTH AND MEDICAL TOPICS WHICH CONSUMERS FIND DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN RELEVANT, RELIABLE INFORMATION. A WEB-BASED PLATFORM FOR CREATING ONLINE RESOURCE GUIDES WAS ACQUIRED BY DONATION IN 2018, AND SIGNIFICANT WORK WAS DONE IN 2018 TOWARDS OUR LATER LIFE RESOURCE GUIDE. (VERSION 1.0 OF THAT GUIDE WAS PUBLISHED EARLY IN 2019.) PUBLIC PROGRAM EVENTS AROUND TOPICS COVERED IN THAT LATER LIFE RESOURCE GUIDE WERE CONDUCTED AT THE JOYCE ELLINGTON BRANCH OF THE SAN JOSE PUBLIC LIBRARY AND AT THE CITY OF SUNNYVALE SENIOR CENTER. THOSE WERE UNIFORMLY WELL-RECEIVED (PER FORMAL EVALUATIONS). ATTENDANCE AT THOSE EVENTS TOTALED 81 PEOPLE, WITH FURTHER ENGAGEMENT (MEASURED IN SUBSEQUENT EMAILS) AT APPROX. 10%, MAKING FOR SMALL BUT QUITE SUCCESSFUL OUTREACH.OTHER WORK DURING THE YEAR INCLUDED MORE PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT (FOR BOTH EXISTING AND NEW PROGRAMS) AND EXPAND COMMUNITY OUTREACH, DEVELOPING IDEAS FOR FUTURE FUNDING SOURCES, AND STRENGTHENING INFRASTRUCTURE. IN Q4 2017 PLANETREE HEALTH LIBRARY LOST THE LEASE TO ITS OFFICE SPACE AND MADE THE DECISION TO CONVERT TO AN ALL-VIRTUAL OFFICE MODEL FOR ITS TWO PART-TIME STAFF (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND PROGRAM ASSISTANT/NEWSLETTER EDITOR), THUS REDUCING THE ORGANIZATION'S OPERATING EXPENSES SOMEWHAT FOR 2018. THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED A SECOND BOARD OF DIRECTORS RETREAT IN NOVEMBER TO FURTHER DEVELOP ITS STRATEGIC PLAN, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES; AND MAY INCORPORATE A SIMILAR ANNUAL MEETING AS PART OF ITS REGULAR ACTIVITIES.
