IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES, THE ORGANIZATION TRAINS CHRISTIAN LEADERS, PROVIDES MERCY MINISTRIES, STRATEGIZE TO EMPOWER CHRISTIANS AND MAKE CHRISTIANS SUCCESSFUL AS WELL AS CARRY OUT EVANGELISTIC CRUSADES.
About
In 2018, GBM was involved in 27 ministry events in five countries. Some of these were large events with multiple times of teaching and ministry over days and weeks. The ministry events included church services, seminars, Bible schools, intern programs, and other ministry proceedings out of the country and in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The international ministry included mission trips to Israel, Tunisia, and three in Kenya. These mission trips normally involved multiple people going with GBM. The first international ministry trip of 2018 was to Israel in February. I led a team of sixteen on a mission trip in which we focused on seeing the Holy sites, ministering in various places, and times of intercessory prayer. The three trips to Kenya were in April / May, August, and December. I was in Nairobi, Kenya, to work with Kenya College of Ministry (Kcom). GBM has partnered with Capital Church of Meridian, Idaho, to help start and teach at Kcom. The school has approximately 80 students in the three-year diploma course while others are working on a thesis for a degree. Most of the students are lead pastors. The courses that they take emphasize both theology and practical ministry. The school also includes pastors from the country of Tanzania. We have had six graduations to this point. The trips to Kenya often include ministry in various churches. In May, I traveled to Tunis, Tunisia with two other short-term missionaries to visit and to encourage missionaries who work with Frontier missions. Another missionary from the Middle East also came to meet with us. The time consisted of various prayer and strategy meetings. Ministry in Pakistan occurred in October. I went by myself on this mission but worked with GBMs ministry partners in Pakistan. The two partners are Pastor Rizwan Fazal and Pastor Asher Aziz who both reside in Lahore, Pakistan. They are both lead pastors and carry on their own ministry activities as well as partner with GBM for its activities. With these partners, GBM has carried out many ministry exploits. An important advancement was made at the beginning of 2018 when Pastor Rizwan Fazal was able to register GBM Pakistan with the government of Pakistan as a non profit ministry. The October ministry trip included many ministry activities, including open air preaching events, church meetings, visiting and opening new GBM Trade schools for women, a diploma graduation, as well as visiting and ministry in our GBM Hopes schools for slave children. By the end of 2018, GBM had twenty-two (22) schools in Pakistan. Six (6) of these are trade schools for women and sixteen (16) are schools for children who are slaves in brick yards. All of these schools are in the Punjab region. The schools for women each have a teacher and about 12 students. The students are taught to become seamstresses and beauticians so that they can get jobs. These are Christian schools, but we allow women who are not Christians to also come. Some Muslim women attend these schools. We have had 290 women graduate from our trade schools since 2009. In the October ministry, we relocated four of the schools, essentially starting four new schools, because the schools in the previous villages had already trained the eligible women in those communities. The GBM Hope Schools for slave children each have a teacher with approximately 45 students. The students receive uniforms, desks, curriculum, and are taught Urdu, English, mathematics, science, and Bible. The United Nations refers to these children as slaves. The government of Pakistan does not include them in their school systems, and we have been told that education is the only possible way that these slaves will gain lasting freedom from the indentured, downward-spiraling-bondage system of the brick yard factories. Two churches in the Punjab were started by GBM. These are called Light City churches. Each church now has about 200 people in attendance. Though we do not yet own land, the congregations meet in courtyards and they seem to be doing well. In 2017, we helped one of these churches with a building program.The trip to Pakistan took me through Dubai, where I met with a missionary from that region whom I have known, encouraged, and prayed with for years. In September, I was videotaped teaching ten hours at a Bible school campus in Missoula, Montana for a new course entitled Understanding Islam in the Modern World. The campus was part of Christian Life School of Theology whose headquarters are in Columbus, Georgia. They have multiple campuses, and I have been teaching for them since 2000. Also, in September, I attended a Missio Nexus conference in Orlando, Florida for the first time. This organization of missionaries and mission-oriented ministries began in 2014.
