Mission

NTC builds a resilient, modern educator workforce with enriching professional learning that inspires teachers to stay, grow, and lead.

About

At NTC, we believe that every student deserves an excellent education that unlocks joyful learning, career readiness, and lifelong opportunities. Our mission is to build a resilient, modern educator workforce with enriching professional learning that inspires teachers to stay, grow, and lead. We recognize that we are in the midst of a teacher turnover crisis, and we cannot recruit our way out of the challenge. At a time when 25% of public schools have multiple teaching vacancies (National Center for Education Statistics, 2022) and over half of educators indicate they are ready to leave the profession earlier than planned (Jotkoff, 2022), schools need strategies to cultivate and retain the new teachers they bring in. Our work is based on evidence from neuroscience, cognitive science, and developmental research on what must be true for students and adults to be open and ready to learn and grow. We continuously refine our professional learning and resources to stay current with new findings and understanding from innovations that advance the field. We bring this knowledge to our close working partnerships with schools and systems to co-design programming and solutions that meet their specific and nuanced needs and goals. Our induction services help districts build and sustain programming that supports teachers in the first years of their career, and is proven by federal grant studies to increase teacher retention. In fact, each dollar invested in NTC’s teacher induction resulted in a 22 cent return the following year due to reduced teacher attrition (Counting the Cost, 2019). In our new strategic plan, we iterate on our proven induction model with our current new teacher workforce in mind. We anticipate new teacher induction will be the entry point for the vast majority of our partnerships over the next three years. NTC’s core services will also support districts to understand ways to grow their teacher workforce and develop them into tomorrow’s instructional leaders. We anticipate that new teacher induction, along with our coaching and leadership services, altogether will comprise 80-90% of our portfolio. We also recognize that we must continue to innovate to meet the current moment. Innovations in our induction support and coaching content will enable us to continuously improve while putting new research-backed resources into the K-12 education community nationally. All of NTC’s work is grounded in the Optimal Learning Environment framework, which asserts that kind, caring and respectful relationships among adults and students are integral to academic success and personal well-being – we integrate a relationship-grounded approach in all work we do with educators. This model is backed by rigorous research. Our federal grant studies demonstrate that NTC support yields greater teacher retention, student learning, and cost savings to districts. Our goal is to continue to validate the results of our proven model, while adapting these models to today’s challenges.
