IGNITE's mission is to create opportunities to spark girls' excitement about technology careers and inspire them to new possibilities. IGNITE lights them up. Self-identifying girls and non-binary students in grades K-12, and college from all backgrounds interact with professional women in technology careers during the school day. Young women and non-binary students glimpse themselves as innovators and entrepreneurs through stories of successful women who work and live in their communities. Working with teachers, IGNITE increases girls and non-binary students interest and participation in computer science and engineering classes. With the growth and positive outcomes IGNITE has created, a demand for the program in elementary schools and colleges has arisen. IGNITE's mission now encompasses girls and non-binary students at every level of their education.

IGNITE (Inspiring Girls Now in Technology Evolution) is an award-winning State and National Best Practice program. IGNITE introduces girls in grades 6-12 to technology and engineering through a local school chapter. IGNITE is a school-based program and managed by teachers at the school. IGNITE partners with schools so that girls can get the support and encouragement they need to pursue these career paths. By reaching into K-12 education, we are affecting change that the right time for girls to understand the fastest growing careers in our country; women need more equal representation in these fields. An IGNITE school chapter would include: panel discussions, field trips, and job shadowing. Furthermore, each school chapter includes an educator, financial and volunteers supporters, the building of peer support, and hosting IGNITE events for girls. During the 2017-2018 school year, IGNITE worked with 37,000 girls and 75 chapters. IGNITE held 76 events to introduce STEM careers to the participating girls. Based on a survey conducted with the participants, the impact of our school-based program resulted in 50% of IGNITE girls stating they are more likely to participate in STEM classes immediately. Additionally, 89% of the IGNITE girls are inspired to want to learn more about STEM careers. Finally, 78% of IGNITE girls are more likely to consider a STEM degree after participating in our program.
