Mission
PHFS' mission is to empower homeless families with children to get back into housing and to stay there long-term.
About
Emergency Shelter - Family Village - PHFS provides shelter for homeless families with children. During this fiscal year the shelter was relocated to Family Village in Southeast Portland, and it is the first trauma-informed shelter for homeless families with children in Oregon. The Family Village Shelter was in transition during this fiscal year and was only able to host 10 homeless families while a large portion of the campus was remodeled. Once construction was complete in late 2019, Family Village hosted 25 families every night. In total the entity served 109 families (387 individuals) during the 2018 - 2019 fiscal year. Families receive meals, showers, laundry, computer access, storage for their belongings, sleeping space, and educational activities for children and their parents. The families work with a housing specialist to help them transition to housing. They also participate in classes on life skills including budgeting, parenting, tenant education and employment. On average families stayed 48 days in shelter before transitioning to permanent housing.
