Bear Givers is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing joy to the lives of children and adults with the symbolic gift of a loveable Teddy Bear. Bear Givers believes that the altruism of some can exponentially affect the lives of many. Its programs facilitate an environment where "givers" are "empowered" by bringing joy to others and by enabling young people with special needs to feel the satisfaction of being able to give back to others.Bear Givers facilitates programs in which children, celebrities, and other adults give Teddy Bears to, and positively interact with, sick, disabled, and other disadvantaged children, with the objective of cheering and comforting the recipients of the gifts. These visits take place in hospitals, schools for special children, orphanages, and other similar facilities. These uplifting visits benefit both the givers and the recipients of the Teddy Bears in a heartwarming, positive experience.
About
Bear Givers created the Empowerment Program to empower children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other learning disabilities,and teach them about giving and receiving. During 2009 Bear Givers donated Teddy Bears to 5 schools serving children with special needs and the students decided who to give them away to. This enabled them to experience the joy of giving to others they believed were in need of comfort. As these students are usually the recipients of charity,this Program also provided them with an opportunity to give back. The Empowerment Program will be introduced to more schools in future years.
