Mission

Teen Kitchen Project builds healthy communities through food.

About

In FISCAL 2018:The mission of Teen Kitchen Project (TKP) is to build healthy communities through food. TKP brings volunteer teens into the kitchen to prepare nutritious, medically tailored meals that are delivered to individuals and families who are impacted by life threatening illness. TKP meets the needs of critically and chronically ill people in Santa Cruz County who are low income, lack a support network of family or friends, or do not qualify for other free meal delivery service. The program also meets the needs of teens by providing them with valuable life skills and the opportunity to give back to their community. Highlights of our program last year include: 1) Delivering 22,926 meals to 269 families in Santa Cruz County. 2) Engaging 450 volunteers in cooking and delivery of meals. 3) Teens donated 4,330 hours in service to community. 4) There was a 40% increase in youth involvement in our Watsonville program. 5) TKP increased its earned income revenue - We saw an increase from 16% to 20% of funding coming from our catering, classes, and camps program. Our catering support team is primarily composed of teen chefs, who we engage preparing and executing events. This on-the-job training allows youth to gain valuable skills while earning income. This year we employed 45 youth in on the job training for our catering and classes.
