About

2018 Camp Rice Family Culture Camp: The 9th Camp Rice took place on July 19-21, 2018 at the Pearlstone Retreat Center in Reisterstown, MD. The event was attended by 56 adult campers, 28 children, 32 teens, and 45 staffs. The theme of the camp was "Friends of Korea". While children learned about Korean culture through arts, music, dance, and cooking, adult campers had conference style lecture session -a couple of keynote speakers and several breakout sessions. This year's keynote speaker was Hoilee McGinnis, an adult adoptee and researcher. Adult programming included a Korean adoptee panel discussion on the last day of camp facilitated by NaDa Shoemaker. Our young campers care growing up and becoming preteens and teens. This year was the first year we had the biggest number of teen campers. Teens enjoyed learning about Korean culture while making deeper connections with other teens and listening to adult adoptees' stories.
