Mission

Blue Engine (BE) is on a mission to design team-taught classrooms that meet the needs of all students, particularly students of color, students living in poverty, and those with learning and thinking differences. BE’s team teaching model supports educators to effectively collaborate, build authentic relationships, and use data to individualize instruction for every student. BE does this by working with educators to put structures and systems in place to help teachers know what each student needs every day to improve learning and provide individualized instruction based upon that information.

About

In Blue Engine's AmeriCorps Program, Blue Engine recruits, trains, and supports a corps of Blue Engine Teaching Apprentices (BETAs) who work alongside teachers in district middle and high schools serving historically oppressed communities. This year, approximately 72 BETAs served over 1700 students across 9 schools in NYC. BETAs increase academic rigor and college readiness by: reducing student-to-teacher ratios in math and literacy classes, utilizing data to inform personalized instruction, and expanding learning time during and after school. At the same time, Blue Engine staff develop BETAs as educators, many of whom enter the classroom as full-time teachers after completing the apprenticeship.
