FOUNDED IN 2010, IS A GLOBAL HEALTH NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WORKING TO PREVENT NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (NCDS) THROUGH HEALTH EDUCATION AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES TAKING THE PROGRAMS TO WHERE PEOPLE LIVE, LEARN AND WORK. IN 2018, WE CONTINUED OUR ON-THE-GROUND PROGRAMS IN INDIA THROUGH HEALTH EDUCATION AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES USING MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR WORKING INDIANS (MHEALTH 2.0, MDIABETES), MOBILIZING WORKPLACES TO BECOME HEALTHY WORKPLACES THROUGH A MULTILEVEL CRITERIA AND AWARDS PROGRAM (HEALTHY WORKPLACES) INCLUDING A PLATINUM LEVEL THAT CAPTURES EMPLOYEE HEALTH DATA AND PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN (HEALTHY SCHOOLS AND MY THALI) AND WE INITIATED OUR FIRST US-BASED, US HEALTHY COMMUNITIES PROGRAM (MDIABETES TEXT MESSAGING) TARGETING SOUTH INDIANS. WE ALSO CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON ADVOCATING FOR NCD PREVENTION GLOBALLY.

MHEALTH: OUR MDIABETES PROGRAM IS MOBILE PHONE MESSAGE PROGRAM THAT DRIVES AWARENESS ABOUT THE CAUSES AND COMPLICATIONS OF DIABETES AND TEACHES RECIPIENTS HOW TO PREVENT IT. THE MESSAGES ARE AVAILABLE BY TEXT OR VOICE IN MULTIPLE INDIAN LANGUAGES. OUR PREVIOUS WORK WITH 1 MILLION CONSUMERS THROUGHOUT INDIA IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NOKIA SHOWED 20% IMPROVEMENT IN MULTIPLE HEALTH BEHAVIORS. WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE OUR MDIABETES PROGRAM WITH THE SUPPORT OF A NEW MULTI-YEAR GRANT FROM RURAL SUPPORTING INDIA TRUST (RIST)/HANS FOUNDATION RECEIVED IN 2017 AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ARAVIND EYE CARE SYSTEMS. WE CREATED POSTERS, FLYERS, VIDEOS AND DEPLOYED A SMALL TEAM OF FRONT-LINE ACTIVATORS TO ENCOURAGE PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS TO SIGN UP FOR THE TEXT MESSAGES. MORE THAN 66,000 PEOPLE RECEIVED THE MDIABETES MESSAGES IN 2018. WITH THE GRANT SUPPORT FROM RIST, OUR GOAL IS TO REACH 300,000 MOTIVATED CONSUMERS FROM THE ARAVIND COMMUNITY BY 2020. O MHEALTH 2.0 IS THE SECOND PHASE OF OUR MOBILE HEALTH PROGRAM. WITH SUPPORT FROM CIGNA FOUNDATION, WE HAD DEVELOPED A MOBILE APP CALLED MYAROGYA, ON ANDROID AND IOS PHONES, DESIGNED AS A ONE-STOP SHOP FOR CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION FOR WORKING INDIANS. IN ADDITION TO DIABETES, THE APP ALSO INCLUDED MESSAGES ON HEART DISEASE, STROKE, AND KIDNEY DISEASE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION AND HAD FOOD AND ACTIVITY TRACKERS TO HELP CONSUMERS ON THEIR HEALTH JOURNEY. THE STUDY OF ITS EFFECTIVENESS DONE WITH MADRAS DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION WAS COMPLETED AND THE STUDY RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION IN 2019. O FROM LESSONS LEARNED THROUGH OUR INITIAL MYAROGYA MOBILE APP EXPERIENCE, WE PARTNERED WITH MOBILE APP MAKER GOQII TO OFFER A STATE-OF-THE-ART MOBILE APP FOR WORKING INDIANS IN 2017. IN OUR HEALTHY WORKPLACE CONFERENCES IN 2017 AND 2018 WE PROMOTED THE MYAROGYA-GOQII APP AND FOLLOWED UP WITH A FEW COMPANIES WHO HAD SHOWN INTEREST. THE APP DID NOT GAIN TRACTION WITHIN HEALTHY WORKPLACE COMPANIES. WITH OUR VARIOUS MHEALTH PROGRAMS TOGETHER WITH OUR PARTNERS, AROGYA IS AIMING TO REACH > 6 MM INDIANS BY 2022.
