About

FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR, WE SERVED APPROXIMATELY 766 STUDENTS IN GRADES KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH. THE SCHOOL IMPLEMENTS SEVERAL PRACTICES THAT HELP MAINTAIN INSTRUCTIONAL COHERENCE. ONE OF THOSE PRACTICES IS THE USE OF PARENT-COMMUNICATION NOTEBOOKS. A SEPARATE NOTEBOOK IS KEPT FOR THE SPECIFIC USE OF COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS. NOTES AND INFORMATION ARE WRITTEN IN THE PARENT-COMMUNICATION BOOK ON A DAILY BASIS. THESE NOTES HELP KEEP OUR PARENTS INFORMED OF HOW THEIR SCHOLAR IS DOING EACH DAY. PARENTS ARE ALSO INVITED TO TAKE PART IN THEIR SCHOLAR'S EDUCATION AS THEY ASSIST THE CLASSROOM TEACHER, READ STORIES, OR SHARE THEIR TALENTS IN THEIR SCHOLAR'S CLASSROOM THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN PARENT INVOLVEMENT DAY. CLASSROOM PARENTS ARE ALSO INVITED TO A MONTHLY BRUNCH WITH THE SCHOOL LEADER. A SECOND PRACTICE IMPLEMENTED AT THE SCHOOL IS AN EXTENDED TWO HOUR LITERACY BLOCK AND A 90-MINUTE MATH BLOCK. TECHNOLOGY, DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION, SMALL GROUPS, CENTER ACTIVITIES, AND PEER/TEACHER FEEDBACK ARE ALL INCORPORATED INTO THE EXTENDED LEARNING BLOCKS. A THIRD PRACTICE IS THE USE OF A VARIETY OF DATA COLLECTION METHODS THAT INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO SCHOLAR PORTFOLIOS, INDIVIDUALIZED ACADEMIC PLANS, CLASS DATA BINDERS, AND DIBELS ASSESSMENTS. THE COLLECTION OF DATA IS THEN USED TO DRIVE INSTRUCTION AND THE RESULTS ARE SHARED WITH PARENTS DURING PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES. ALL OF THESE PRACTICES HELP DRIVE INSTRUCTION AND CREATE AN INVITING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT BY BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL, WHICH IS ESSENTIAL IN MAINTAINING AN INSTRUCTIONAL COHERENT ATMOSPHERE. AT THE SCHOOL, WE PLACE A STRONG EMPHASIS ON ACADEMIC EFFORT AND ACHIEVEMENT. IN ADDITION, WE STRESS POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND CHARACTER BUILDING. ALL STAKEHOLDERS KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE SCHOOL'S MISSION STATEMENT AND EDUCATIONAL GOALS. WE DETERMINE INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND PRIORITIES BY EXAMINING THE ASSESSMENTS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. STUDENT ASSESSMENTS GIVE ADMINISTRATORS AND TEACHERS A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT LEVEL EACH SCHOLAR IS ACHIEVING OR STRUGGLING WITH.
