Community-Based Organization providing Hepatitis C HCV prevention, advocacy, care coordination and education services.

About

Testing and Linkage from January 2018 through December 2018, COPE tested 1092 people for HCV and 283 people for HIV. We tested at 65 events in all five boroughs of New York City and Westchester County. We also tested at two events in New Haven Connecticut. Our testing finding for Hepatitis C was a 20.8 overall seropositivity rate. Our seropositivity rate of HIV was 2.7. In 2018, we expanded our testing and outreach services to include opioid replacement therapy facilities and harm reduction facilities. With a more targeted approach towards active and former substance users, we have been able to identify more people aware of their status without having to antibody test. With this approach, we can send people with known infections directly for their confirmatory blood draw, or we draw blood for RNA confirmatory test on the spot and take to lab for analysis. If an active viral load is found, we then take the necessary steps to link them to a provider.
