Mission

BRIDGE OF HOPE HELPS FAMILIES IN TRANSITION.

About

Accomplishment for 2018Bridge of Hope continued to serve the community and local families, surrounding our site, as well as be a resource of help for over seventy agencies in San Diego. Our mission is to strengthen families in transition. The surrounding community is a underserved population; a hundred percent attendance lunch program in our local schools. We provided to those in transition; furniture, all household items (kitchen, bed and bath) as well as clothing and food.We had approximately five hundred people a month in 2018, who went through our clothing closet, and each person can took ten pieces of clothing (shoes included). Each Friday, we have a food distribution. We served families as well aspounds of food. Twice a month on a Saturday, we offered a food distribution for approximately 150 families. Also, on those Saturdays, we have teams from Teen Volunteer in Action, National Charity League, a number of different churches and schools, come and do arts and crafts and games with our neighborhood children. They also serve in our clothing closet and food distribution. Wednesdays is our agency and new family day where we receive referrals from case workers working with clients in need, from over seventy different agencies in San Diego. We takeappointments for fifteen families per week, to be able to receive two pieces of urniture, all kitchen supplies, bedding, towels, clothing and food. All of our furniture, household items, and clothing are donated. We receive donations of gently used items, every Tuesday and Wednesday, and every second and fourth Saturdays. We also picked up donations three days a week, in our moving truck, to anyone donating furniture, food and household items, within San Diego County. We also were blessed to start a partnership with Tuft and Needle mattress company in 2018. We have a arrangement that if a customer, who has purchased a mattress from them, doesnt like it, they have 90 days to donate it for a fullrefund. Bridge of Hope receives two- three mattresses a week becasue of this program. These mattresses are practically brand new and a huge need for most of our families. We had our annual Easter Basket event where 450 children received Easter baskets, that had been donated from Sante Fe Christian School, Venture Church and Anchor Church. We had our annual backpack event where 350 children received backpacks filled with school supplies. The backbacks were donated by Venture Church, Anchor Church, Sante Fe Christian School and private donors. We received 30 turkeys from Communal Coffee House for our volunteers for Thanksgiving. We had our annual Christmas Bazaar, where parents in the community, can come and shop for their children. They can pick out two items per child. We received new toys, toiletries, and clothing, from various donors, for our event and 498 parent/parents, attended the event. The donors included; Makers Church, Coast Vineyard Church, Seeds of Hope, Flood Church, Kids Club pre-school, a few local businesses and private donors. We finished up our lease on the 4802 Trojan Ave. building in December. With that transition, we ended our ability to help with transitional housing. We moved everything over to our Fairmount location. We expanded at our Fairmount location, and took the space next door, which is a dirt lot, and a empty, unhabitable building, and our hopes are to make it useful to the work we do, now that we no longer have the other site. Our hope to is create a tutoring center, add a pantry, and redo the dirt space to be functional.
