PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro is a grassroots hunger relief organization that collects food and distributes it to families in need in the Chapel Hill and Carrboro area.
About
Food for Families program - Groceries are provided to families identified as at-risk by public school social workers and referred to PORCH. Recipients include 430 families or 1,876 individuals living at or below poverty level in the community, including many immigrant families. Revenue of $190,293 consists of the value of perishable and non-perishable groceries donated by community citizens, local grocery stores and local farmers, collected and distributed by PORCH volunteers ($168,933) and grants received from Foundations, goverments and other nonprofits ($21,360) Expenses include this same value plus $159,261 received as general cash donations used to purchase produce and other groceries also distributed to the recipient families, direct distribution expenses of $7,879, and operating expenses of $3,175.
