THE NORTHERN NECK FOOD BANK PROVIDES SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD TO OVER 12,000 PEOPLE MONTHLY IN OUR SIX COUNTY TERRITORY OF LANCASTER, NORTHUMBERLAND, RICHMOND, WESTMORELAND, MIDDLESEX AND ESSEX. NNFB CURRENTLY DISTRIBUTES A RECORD 2.1 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD ANNUALLY TO OVER 25 PANTRIES AND MEAL SITES. WE CURRENTLY OFFER THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS TO THOSE IN NEED IN OUR REGION: -CORE DISTRIBUTION CONSISTS OF DELIVERING FOOD (40% PRODUCE, 40% NON- PERISHABLE, 10% MEAT AND 10% BAKERY/DAIRY FOOD ITEMS) TO OUR PARTNER PANTRIES. -BACKPACK BUDDIES PROVIDES 272 STUDENTS IN NEED SIX "CHILD FRIENDLY" MEALS FOR THE WEEKEND IN RICHMOND, LANCASTER, MIDDLESEX, NORTHUMBERLAND AND WESTMORELAND COUNTIES. -SENIOR PROGRAM PROVIDES 218 SENIORS 60 AND ABOVE AT 125% OF THE POVERTY LEVEL A HEALTHY FOOD SUPPLEMENT EACH MONTH IN LANCASTER AND MIDDLESEX COUNTIES. -THE AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL FARMERS TO ASSURE ACCESS TO PRODUCE FIELDS FOR GLEANING WHICH ENABLES US TO PROVIDE EACH CLIENT A MINIMUM OF 40% FRESH PRODUCE EACH MONTH. WE CURRENTLY DISTRIBUTE OVER 50% FRESH PRODUCE WHICH IS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF FRESH PRODUCE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH FOOD PANTRIES IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. IN THE LAST FISCAL YEAR WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 526,519 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE, AN INCREASE OF 15% FROM THE PRIOR YEAR. FRESH PRODUCE IN EXCESS OF WHAT WE DISTRIBUTE LOCALLY IS THEN DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA.
