Mission

Spay Neuter Charlotte was founded in 2011 to end euthanasia in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region by providing high quality affordable spay/neuter and veterinary care for pet owners to retain pets in their forever homes, with the belief that everyone deserves the privilege of pet ownership regardless of financial resources.

About

In 2018 Stand for Animals provided 16,477 spay neuter surgeries to pet owners in Mecklenburg, Iredell, and York counties. Since opening in August 2011 the clinics have accomplished 79,039 total surgeries. While spay neuter continues to be a key component of the organizational mission, during 2018 the 3 clinic sites expanded veterinary services to make affordable care more widely available to all pet owners. Stand for Animals is one of the only non-profit veterinary practices in the country and as such is leading the industry in provideing affordable services in a high volume setting. The Charlotte clinic (which has the most available appointments of the 3 locations) can see an average of 80 pateients on a veterinary care day. Clinic veterinarians practice "practical medicine" which focuses on high quality solution oriented care. In February 2018 the clinic hosted its first community fundraiser, "So You Think You Can Bark", which enabled the creation of a medical fund to help support clients who need financial assistance to provide care and treatment for their pets. The Pet Food pantry partnership with 2nd Harvest Food Bank and Loaves and Fishes provided pet food to over 800 dogs and cats and the clinics provided discounted services to 38 regional rescues to help facilitate adoption. Each of our program activities specifically targeted to retain pets in their forever homes. Again this year euthanasia at the local shelter declined. Since opening in 2011 the number of homeless dogs and cats euthanized has decreased by almost 50%. While we cannot take the credit for this reduction it is clear that our work is having a significant impact in the region.
