THE CHILDREN'S EYE CARE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON PROVIDING CASE MANAGED FOLLOW-UP EYE CARE TO CHILDREN FAILING A VISON SCREENING IN SCHOOL OR TO THOSE REFERRED BY A SCHOOL NURSE, TEACHER/ADMINISTRATOR, DOCTOR OR OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBER. TO DATE, MORE THAN 700,000 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN HELPED THROUGH THE EYE CARE PROGRAM. CHILDREN IN STATEWIDE IN ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI AND SOUTH CAROLINA AND IN PARTS OF GEORGIA, TEXAS, FLORIDA, TENNESSEE, LOUISIANA, NORTH CAROLINA, AND ARKANSAS HAVE RECEIVED COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS, EYEGLASSES, MEDICATIONS, SURGERIES, OTHER TREATMENTS, AND INDIVIDUAL CASE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT. DURING THE 2018/19 SCHOOL YEAR, THESE SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO 53,649 CHILDREN.THE LOW VISION PROGRAM FOCUSES ON HELPING CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHO HAVE A DISABLING LOSS OF VISION. TO DATE, MORE THAN 2,000 CHILDREN AND ADULTS HAVE BEEN REFERRED. HIGH TECH VISION AIDS INCLUDING ELECTRONIC VIDEO MAGNIFIERS (EVM) AND OTHER ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED IN THE HOMES OF OVER 1200 CHILDREN IN THIRTEEN STATES (AL, AR, MS, TX, GA, TN, CA, IL, FL, LA, HI, AK, OH). DURING THE 2018/19 SCHOOL YEAR, 498 CHILDREN AND ADULTS WERE REFERRED; 334 NEW EVMS WERE PLACED IN HOMES; AND 382 CHILDREN AND ADULTS RECEIVED OTHER VISION AIDS.THE VISION SCREENING PROGRAM PROVIDES SCHOOL-BASED VISION SCREENINGS AND HAS SCREENED OVER 100,000 CHILDREN TO DATE. THE METHOD USED EFFICIENTLY SCREENS CHILDREN IN A NON-INVASIVE MANNER AND CAPTURES REFRACTION DATA IN LESS THAN ONE SECOND, ENSURING THAT STUDENTS MISS A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION TIME. APPROXIMATELY 25% OF CHILDREN SCREENED NEED AN EYE EXAM AND ARE REFERRED TO THE CHILDREN'S EYE CARE PROGRAM FOR FOLLOW-UP WITHIN ONE DAY. DURING THE 2018/19 SCHOOL YEAR 22,708.CHILDREN WERE SCREENED AT 185 EVENTS THROUGHOUT ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI AND PARTS OF TEXAS. 5,690 WERE REFERRED FOR COMPREHENSIVE FOLLOW-UP.THE HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAM PROVIDES HEAD-TO-TOE SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH SCREENINGS, IDENTIFYING UNDIAGNOSED AND UNMET MEDICAL CONCERNS FOR PRESCHOOL-12TH GRADE STUDENTS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS OF ALABAMA AND COORDINATING NECESSARY CARE TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL WELLBEING OF THESE CHILDREN. THE SCREENINGS INCLUDE: HEIGHT & WEIGHT WITH BMI, CHEST ANDABDOMEN EXAMINATION, SKIN & MUSCULOSKELETAL, EYES, EARS, NOSE AND THROAT EXAMINATIONS, DENTAL, VISION, HEARING GLUCOSE, VITAL SIGNS, SCOLIOSIS AND CHOLESTEROL. SINCE THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION, MORE THAN 153,000 HAVE BEEN SCREENED. DURING THE 2018/19 SCHOOL YEAR, 15,682 CHILDREN WERE SCREENED AT 62 EVENTS IN 61 SCHOOLS ACROSS 24 ALABAMA COUNTIES.
