PRESERVING THE PAST. INFLUENCING THE FUTURE. Woodlawn Conservancy, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) organization charged with preserving the historic mausolea, monuments, landscape features and great trees that comprise The National Historic Landmark Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. The Conservancy also provides public and educational programs, tours and events that interpret the objects under Woodlawn’s care and illuminate the celebrated lives of those interred here. To ensure our future as a prestigious cemetery and historic site, the Conservancy seeks financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations and public agencies to underwrite educational programs, restoration projects and horticultural care.

SEE SCHEDULE O FOR DESCRIPTION ON THE TRAINING PROGRAM.WOODLAWN CONSERVANCY CONTINUED THE WOODLAWN CEMETERY PRESERVATION TRAINING PROGRAM IN 2018, WHICH PREPARES YOUNG PEOPLE (18-24) FOR CAREERS IN MASONRY RESTORATION AND CONSTRUCTION. THE TEN WEEK PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM INTRODUCED A COHORT OF 20 TO THE TRADE AND 100% WERE OFFERED JOBS. A SECOND PART OF THE PROGRAM INVOLVED 2 OF THESE GRADUATES BEING HIRED AS APPRENTICES BY THE WOODLAWN CEMETERY FOR MORE EXTENSIVE TRAINING UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF OUR RESIDENT CRAFTSMAN. OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS, 42 YOUNG PEOPLE OR 76.4% OF THE GRADUATES, MALE AND FEMALE, WERE OFFERED ENTRY-LEVEL INDUSTRY POSITIONS.THE KEY TO OUR SUCCESS CREATING A PATHWAY FOR MINORITIES INTO THE BUILDING TRADES IS OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL MASONRY INSTITUTE, THE EDUCATIONAL ARM OF BAC LOCAL 1 (BRICKLAYERS AND ALLIED CRAFTS). THIS RELATIONSHIP, WHICH PROVIDES REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND MENTORSHIP TO OUR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE RESIDENT CRAFTSMAN AND AN ASSISTANT, WITH OVER 30 YEARS OF UNION EXPERIENCE, ENSURES THAT GRADUATES ARE WORK-READY. ALL GRADUATES OF THE PRESERVATION TRAINING PROGRAM RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS: PROGRAM OSHA 30, STATIONARY SCAFFOLD, SWING SCAFFOLD AND MAN-LIFT OPERATION. PRESERVATION TRAINING BY THE NUMBERS: (AS OF 2018) - 87.3% GRADUATED (55 OF 63 ENROLLED) - 76.4% OFFERED ENTRY-LEVEL INDUSTRY POSITION (42 OF 55 GRADUATES) - 18.1% OFFERED/ACCEPTED IN BRICKLAYERS LOCAL 1 (10 OF 55) - 21.8 OFFERED/ACCEPTED INTO OTHER UNION POSITION (12 OF 55) - 41.8 EMPLOYED IN REST/CONSTRUCTION 6 MONTHS AFTER GRADUATION (23 OF 55)
