EARLY CHILDHOOD:CONCORDIA OPERATES FOUR EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTERS IN CHICAGO TO PROVIDE QUALITY LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES. THE CENTERS PROVIDE EARLY LEARNING AND PRESCHOOL AND HAVE A COMBINED LICENSED CAPACITY OF 375 CHILDREN, AGES 6 WEEKS - TO FIVE YEARS OLD. WE EVALUATE OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS BY MEASURING PROGRESS OF EACH CHILD AS WELL AS THE CLASSROOM OVERALL IN MEETING CRITICAL MILESTONES AS WELL AS AT A CLASSROOM LEVEL. TEACHING STRATEGIES GOLD IS THE RESEARCHED-BASED METHODOLOGY, PROMOTING 36 LEARNING OBJECTIVES THAT ARE STRONG PREDICTORS OF FUTURE SUCCESS. PERFORMANCE AND GROWTH REPORTS SUPPORT TEACHERS IN DETERMINING IF A CHILD AND CLASSROOM ARE MEETING END OF THE YEAR EXPECTATIONS (PERFORMANCE), OR IF A CHILD AND CLASSROOM ARE DEMONSTRATING PROGRESS TOWARD MEETING EXPECTATIONS (GROWTH). EVALUATING THE CHILDREN'S PERFORMANCE AND GROWTH OVER THE FY19 SCHOOL YEAR DEMONSTRATED:- FOR TWO-YEAR-OLDS, 88% MET/EXCEEDED THE DEVELOPMENTAL STANDARDS IN SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT, 97% MET/EXCEEDED THE DEVELOPMENTAL STANDARDS IN LANGUAGE AND 85% MET/EXCEEDED THE DEVELOPMENTAL STANDARDS IN MATH. - ALMOST 90% OF CONCORDIA CHILDREN GOING TO KINDERGARTEN MET/EXCEEDED DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS COMPARED TO 70% IN OTHER CHICAGO CENTERS FUNDED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES (DFSS) AND 25% OF CHILDREN ACROSS ILLINOIS. THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE EDUCATION OF YOUNG CHILDREN (NAEYC) SETS THE STANDARDS FOR HIGH-QUALITY EARLY LEARNING FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. ACCREDITATION BY NAEYC IS A RIGOROUS, MULTI-STEP PROCESS THAT IS COMPREHENSIVE WITH OPERATIONS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES, PROGRAMMING PRACTICES, AND OBSERVATIONS FROM THE CLASSROOMS. BOTH CONCORDIA PLACE ON SEELEY AND CONCORDIA PLACE ON WHIPPLE ACHIEVED RE-ACCREDITATION IN 2019 AND WILL BE DESIGNATED NAEYC CENTERS FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. CONCORDIA ON MILWAUKEE AND CONCORDIA ON RAVENSWOOD ARE IN PROCESS; IT TYPICALLY TAKES 2 YEARS OR MORE TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS AND ACHIEVE ACCREDITATION.SCHOOL-AGE 365: CONCORDIA OPERATES A LICENSED OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN AGES 5 - 12 YEARS OLD. AFTER SCHOOL EACH DAY, CONCORDIA PROVIDES SAFE PASSAGE FROM AREA SCHOOLS TO CONCORDIA ON WHIPPLE, WHERE THE CHILDREN RECEIVE A HEALTHY SNACK, RECEIVE HOMEWORK HELP, AND CHOOSE FROM FUN ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES THAT INCORPORATE ILLINOIS LEARNING STANDARDS. THE PROGRAM OPERATES EACH DAY FROM THE TIME SCHOOL LETS OUT UNTIL 6PM AND FULL DAYS (7AM - 6PM) WHEN SCHOOL HAS DAYS OFF. SUMMER CAMP EXPANDS HOURS OF OPERATION (7AM - 6PM) AND THE CURRICULUM. KINDERGARTENERS - 2ND GRADE HAVE S.T.E.A.M. POWERED SUMMER WITH HANDS-ON LEARNING ACTIVITIES IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART AND MATH. "OLDER" CAMPERS (3RD - 7TH GRADE) HAVE MORE ADVANCED ACTIVITIES THAT DEVELOP A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENCE. ALL THE CAMPERS ALSO ENJOY FIELD TRIPS AND HAVE TIME FOR READING, RELAXING, AND PLENTY OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2019, CONCORDIA SERVED NEARLY 80 STUDENTS.
