About

INNOVATION: AFRICA (IA - HTTPS://WWW.INNOAFRICA.ORG/) BRINGS ISRAELI SOLAR, WATER, AND AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES TO RURAL AFRICAN VILLAGES. USING SOLAR ENERGY, WE PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO POWER SCHOOLS AND ORPHANAGES ALLOWING STUDENTS TO STUDY AT NIGHT AND HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTERS, AND WE LIGHT MEDICAL CLINICS, ENABLING THEM TO WORK IN THE DARK AND PROVIDE PROPER HEALTHCARE TO THE COMMUNITIES. WE ALSO SUPPLY MEDICAL CENTERS WITH REFRIGERATION FOR STORING MEDICINES AND VACCINES. THE SOLAR-POWERED WATER PUMPS INSTALLED IN THE VILLAGES ALLOW FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ENERGY TO PUMP SAFE, CLEAN WATER FROM DEEP BELOW THE GROUND IN THE AQUIFERS, AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE YEAR-ROUND. EACH WATER PUMP PROVIDES RURAL COMMUNITIES WITH OVER 30,000 LITERS OF CLEAN WATER PER DAY. THE IMPACT OF CLEAN WATER AND POWER INCLUDES IMPROVED COMMUNITY HEALTH; BETTER EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND ENTREPRENEURIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN WHO NO LONGER NEED TO SPEND THEIR DAYS TREKKING FAR TO FETCH WATER. OVERALL, COMMUNITIES ARE ABLE TO FLOURISH WITH THE ADDITION OF CLEAN WATER AND ELECTRICITY. IA ALSO BRINGS A UNIQUELY ISRAELI AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION, DRIP IRRIGATION, WHICH ENABLES THE GROWTH OF MORE FOOD WITH LESS WATER, EXTENDS THE GROWING SEASON, PREVENTS HUNGER AND CREATES REVENUE-GENERATING OPPORTUNITIES. WE BELIEVE THE CORE OF EACH PROJECT IS TO CREATE LONG-LASTING AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS, SO OUR ENGINEERS DEVELOPED A REMOTE MONITORING TECHNOLOGY TO DETECT SYSTEM FAILURES AND TRAIN LOCAL RESIDENTS TO REPAIR EQUIPMENT SO THAT VILLAGES ARE NEVER LEFT IN THE DARK OR WITHOUT WATER. WITHIN AFRICA, IN 2019, WE SAW A SIGNIFICANT EXPANSION ACROSS ALL SEVEN AFRICAN COUNTRIES WE OPERATE IN (UGANDA, MALAWI, ZAMBIA, TANZANIA, SOUTH AFRICA, ESWATINI, AND CAMEROON) MORE THAN DOUBLING OUR IMPACT AND COMPLETED PROJECTS FROM 2018. MOST NOTABLY, WE CONTINUED OUR WORK WITH UNICEF IN CAMEROON, PROVIDING LIGHT AND CLEAN WATER TO 160,417 PEOPLE, MANY OF WHO ARE INTERNALLY DISPLACED CAMEROONIANS FLEEING BOKO HARAM AND REFUGEES FROM THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC. WE EXPANDED OUR WORK IN ZAMBIA IN THE DROUGHT-STRICKEN SOUTHERN PROVINCE. WHO EXPERIENCED A FULL YEAR WITHOUT RAIN, MAKING WATER AND FOOD EXTREMELY SCARCE. IN TOTAL, WE PROVIDED LIGHT AND WATER TO 108 NEW VILLAGES THIS YEAR WITH THE COMPLETION OF 25 HEALTH CENTERS, 15 SCHOOLS, AND 68 WATER PROJECTS, IMPACTING 439,944 PEOPLE. WE ALSO NEARLY DOUBLED OUR OPERATIONAL TEAM, HIRING 12 NEW TEAM MEMBERS ACROSS AFRICA, NEW YORK, AND ISRAEL.
