Mission
Urban Community School's mission is to provide primarily low-income children from Cleveland's Near West Side with an individualized, innovative, and challenging education. The philosophy of Urban Community School is that every child has the capacity to learn when provided with a quality individualized education. When Urban Community School was first established it offered a new concept in education. The faculty created a curriculum and utilized a revolutionary way of teaching called 'differentiated learning,' where students are met at their respective skill levels in each subject area, and guided to reach their potential through a rigorous academic environment infused with music, arts, and technology. A key component of education in the middle school is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Urban Community School strives, in cooperation with families, to guide the growth and development of each child: academically, emotionally, morally, physically and spiritually. The school emphasizes continuous progress by encouraging each child to advance at his/her own pace to achieve their highest potential. The school enrolls 581 students.
