Mission

In 1960, ten families founded Aspire because they believed that their children, all with a developmental disability, deserved to live, learn and grow in their community. Since then, Aspire has grown into a forward-thinking nonprofit that serves more than 1,000 individuals and 600 households each year in Cook and Lake County. Aspire's mission is to support the successes of children and adults with developmental disabilities, strengthen their families and build embracing communities. Every Aspire program facilitates choice, independence, and community inclusion. Our vision is of a community in which people of all abilities live, learn and grow together.

About

Aspire Living provides housing options that assist adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community and Life Enrichment services that further promote interaction with their communities. 125 individuals currently reside in our community homes, shared and intermittent living facilities and participate in our Life Enrichment program. Aspire's Life On My Own program empowers adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities to transition to living independently in the community with minimal assistance. To date, 45 adults with disabilities have worked toward achieving the skills and confidence necessary for independent living. Of them, 30 continue to live independently with very minimal assistance.
