About this organization
Mission
Foundation 65 was created by parents around a kitchen table who wanted to support the education of their children and the children of their community. In a place like Evanston, we value diversity and inclusion. Foundation 65 is a place to help us live those values. We share a commitment with District 65 to serve our striving students and have recognized that race matters in our educational system. We provide financial support and partnership around student programs and educational empowerment. Because together we can eradicate Evanston's educational disparities so that all kids can reach grade level for literacy.

Foundation 65 is an independent grantmaking organization that invests in educator-led initiatives to support educational equity through literacy and arts in a child’s foundational years. Since 2008, Foundation 65 has invested almost $3 million in programs and interventions, making an impact on District 65 students. We help District 65 educators grow innovative ideas to address real problems they see every day. We help address inequities between schools by providing literacy and arts enrichment for students across the district. We look to significantly contribute to decreasing the achievement gap by partnering closely with the district and funding programs that are measurable and have specific outcomes. We focus on key transitions in students’ academic careers; in particular, the earliest years of kindergarten and first grade. We place emphasis on family and community involvement in education.
