Reuse and recycle clothes and shoes locally in USA: collected, reused and recycled 3.7 million pounds of clothes and shoes. Gaias largest program is the reuse and recycle clothes & shoes. The textiles industry is one of the most important contributors to global warming and climate change. Gaias mission is to help increase the percentage of reused and recycled clothes and shoes in USA. Through clothing drop boxes conveniently placed in local communities in 5 states, Gaia diverted from the landfills 3.7 million pounds. Gaia provided green jobs to a total of 26 full time employees in the 5 states while doing so. Approximately 300,000 Americans donated their used and unwanted items in the boxes. Gaia also donated childrens books and toys to childrens hospitals and aldermanic Christmas functions in Chicago.
