About this organization
Mission
The Center’s mission addresses root causes of poverty by reconnecting low-income, non-custodial fathers to their children financially and emotionally. The Center, a statewide nonprofit founded by the Sisters of Charity Foundation of SC in 2002, works with 6 well-established local fatherhood programs in 11 communities to ensure consistent community-based quality services, secure ongoing financial support statewide, and serve as the collective voice for practitioners and advocates for fathers. The Center is an outgrowth of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina's Fatherhood Initiative, "Reducing Poverty through Father Engagement," launched in 1997 and is a result of a public-private partnership between the foundation and the SC Department of Social Services. The Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, based in Richfield, Ohio. It is among only a few organizations in SC that focus on low-income fathers and their unique needs and challenges.
About
The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families (Center) was established in 2002 as a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System (SCHS). The Fatherhood initiative of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina (Foundation) led to the establishment of six fatherhood organizations. The Center, through a partnership with the Foundation and the South Carolina Department of Social Services, provides financial support for these programs. The community-based programs provide services to low-income fathers around responsible fatherhood, job readiness and employment, parenting and co-parenting, healthy relationships, and additional services on a case by case basis. To date the Center has served more than 16,400 fathers and families and has impacted the lives of countless children.
